Summary: "Reformy systemów szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce i innych krajach zmieniają logikę funkcjonowania instytucji akademickich. Można wskazać trzy filary tych zmian, upodabniających w powszechnym odczuciu uniwersytety do korporacji. Są to: profesjonalizacja procesów zarządzania uczelniami, rosnące znaczenie trzeciej misji uniwersytetu oraz menedżerskie struktury władzy. W monografii podjęta została próba konfrontacji struktur zarządzania i nadzoru nad korporacjami, stosowanych od wielu lat w świecie biznesu i sprawdzonych w praktyce, z nowymi rozwiązaniami wprowadzanymi do akademickiego środowiska instytucjonalnego. Wielowątkowe rozważania stały się podstawą do sformułowania konkluzji, że możliwa jest koegzystencja dwóch pozornie sprzecznych idei kryjących się pod pojęciami "uniwersytetu Humboldta" i "uniwersytetu korporacyjnego" - jeżeli zastosować złagodzoną wersję menedżeryzmu, w jej zhumanizowanej, neokolegialnej formie. Taki kierunek zmian w instytucjach szkolnictwa wyższego wymaga zredefiniowania struktur władzy i metod zarządzania uniwersytetem, przy jednoczesnym utrzymaniu tradycyjnych norm i wartości akademickich. Zreformowany uniwersytet powinien być organizacją, która będzie skuteczna i efektywna, ale jednocześnie utrzyma równowagę między odpowiedzialnością kierownictwa a współuczestnictwem akademickim. Uniwersytet, zachowując walor "racjonalności instytucjonalnej", pozostanie dla tych na zewnątrz i dla tych wewnątrz legitymizowaną wersją instytucji akademickiej."

Summary: "Explores the impact of shared governance in times of campus and system transition.Shared governance impacts every member of the campus community, including faculty, staff, students, and administrators. Millions of items are held in museum collections around the world but many museums have very few visitors to their stored collections. These stored objects are certainly not neglected by their professional custodians, and they are loved with a great intensity by some curators and enthusiasts. However, for all but a tiny proportion of the population they have little or no personal meaning. This book goes beyond strategic discussions of access to stores, information enhancement, or collections rationalization and focuses on the emotional potential of these objects. The authors explore how "care" for objects has varied over time and consider who cares for objects that are generally considered to be unsuitable for display and why they care. They also consider how inter-generational and inter-disciplinary dialogue can enhance or engender engagement with "unloved" collections and offer strategies and reflection on interpreting stored collections. This book will be essential reading for scholars, students, and professionals in museums, especially those concerned with curation and collections
